Tapping Guide for “ Giving Up”
This is a simplified guide, meant for those who have already met with me individually or in a workshop and learned the techniques. Please read my accompanying Blog Post: 5 bogus coaching cliches (Part 1) before using this guide.
For each reminder phrase (in quotes) below, fill in the blank with the name of the situation or activity you’re thinking of quitting. Say the setup 3 times while tapping karate chop point. “Even though” + reminder phrase + “ I completely accept myself.” Then, tap on each of the 10 points while saying a single reminder phrase aloud. Repeat for the rest of the reminder phrases, one at a time.
1. Core need
Write down your core needs from doing this activity, and tap using these reminder phrases:
“I really need {core need}”
“I can only get {core need} from doing _____”
“I will never get {core need} if I stop doing ___”
If you have trouble discerning your core needs, try tapping with one or more of these reminder phrases, and see what occurs to you.
“I’m too overwhelmed to know what I need”
“This decision is so big”
“I’m afraid of getting closer to making a choice”
“I’m resisting making this choice”
“It’s not safe to admit what I really want”
“I don’t have permission to want these things”
2. Drive to stop
“It’s too much for me to finish ____”
“I’ll never get there“
“I don’t deserve to succeed in finishing this ____”
“If I complete this _______ people won’t like it”
repeat above with a specific name (spouse, parent, child, boss, etc)
“I made a promise not to succeed in ____”
3. Drive to continue
“I must stick with ____ no matter what”
“It’s not safe to stop ____”
“People will disapprove if I stop ____”
repeat above using a specific name (spouse, parent, child, boss, etc) instead of ‘People’
“I’m a failure if I stop ____”
“I’ll never accomplish anything if I stop ____”
“I’ll be worthless if I stop ____”
